Cochin International Airport is a sustainable energy leading player in India.

The Champions of Earth title, the highest environmental honour bestowed by the UN, was given to the Cochin International Airport in 2018 for being the first "green airport" in the world. Solar energy completely powers the airport, providing all of its electrical needs. This is no minor accomplishment considering the Cochin airport's potential importance for both India and the rest of the globe. In terms of passenger traffic, it is the biggest airport in the state of Kerala and the sixth biggest in all of India. With a maximum length of 3.4 km and the capacity to accommodate the biggest aircraft, it has one of the longest runways. Additionally, it is India's first airport ever to be created by a public-private partnership.
