  • Axis Max Life Insurance plans to list its stock directly

    15 May 2025

According to Managing Director Prashant Tripathy, Axis Max Life Insurance plans to list its stock directly as soon as federal lawmakers pass the relevant amendment bill. He believes that this step will simplify the ownership structure and enhance transparency. "We are very optimistic," Tripathy said in an interview. "All stakeholders, including regulators, shareholders, promoters, and management, are aligned. Once the bill is cleared, hopefully during the monsoon session, we will act immediately."

Currently, Axis Max Life is jointly owned by Axis Bank and Max Financial Services and operates under a quasi-listed structure. This means that while the parent companies are publicly traded, the insurance business itself is not directly listed. Tripathy described this structure as "suboptimal" and expressed that merging it into a single listed entity would provide better visibility and increase investor confidence.

This initiative comes amid a regulatory push aimed at bringing more insurers into the public markets to enhance governance and encourage greater investor participation. The Insurance Laws (Amendment) Bill, once approved, is expected to ease listing requirements for companies like Axis Max Life.

As it prepares for its public debut, Axis Max Life is focusing on achieving growth that exceeds the industry average. For FY 25, the company reported a 20% increase in total new business, compared to 15% for the private life insurance sector. Tripathy noted that the insurer has delivered an 18% compound annual growth rate over the past two years, which is double the industry average.
