NEW DELHI: Indian
Railways' decision of
procuring 90,000 wagons
during over three years
through 2024-25 comes as a
major fillip for the wagon
manufacturers as it will lead
to higher capacity utilisation
for them, reversing the
trend of past couple of years amid low orders from the railways.
"Out of 90,000 orders, more than 70,000 orders are already allocated to
Engineering and Industries Limited (HEIL),
players such as
Titagarh Wagons, Texmaco Rail & Engineering Limited, and Jupiter
Wagons Limited in first quarter of 2022-23," India Ratings said in a
report.
This procurement of wagons is aimed at meeting the railways' target to
increase its share in freight usage to 45 per cent from 27 per cent in
2018-19 under National Rail Plan 2030 and help the government in
achieving carbon neutrality by 2070.
