The National Stock Exchange (NSE) announced a new agreement with the Ministry of Defence to improve capital market access for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) within the defense sector. The Memorandum of Understanding aims to assist MSMEs in the defense sector in raising capital efficiently and transparently through the NSE Emerge platform, which is specifically designed for small and medium enterprises on the National Stock Exchange. This platform provides new and viable options for raising equity capital from a diverse group of investors, the exchange stated.
The MoU will be effective for five years, during which the Department of Defence Production and the National Stock Exchange will conduct a comprehensive awareness campaign. This will include seminars, MSME camps, informational sessions, roadshows, and workshops to help companies working with the Ministry of Defence raise funds through the NSE Emerge platform. The NSE will also assist MSMEs in connecting with intermediaries such as merchant bankers, registrars, transfer agents, and depositories, guiding capital markets, capital-raising mechanisms, and regulatory compliance requirements. The MoU was signed by the Additional Secretary of the Department of Defence Production and the Managing Director of the NSE, in the presence of Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane.
