The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is in discussions with the Finance Ministry to address speculation in the options market. According to CNBC-TV18, SEBI may consider discontinuing weekly options expirations in favor of a bi-monthly or monthly expiration schedule.
The regulator aims to encourage retail investors to move away from speculative income practices and to make more informed investment decisions. To facilitate this shift, SEBI may request the Finance Ministry to reduce the Securities Transaction Tax on cash market transactions, thereby promoting investment over speculation.
