Meet the innovator who made insurance buying seamless, shark “Varun Dua”, founder of Acko and co-founder of GlitterBug Technologies.
• Varun Dua is a serial fintech entrepreneur who has revolutionized the insurance industry in India with his innovative and customer-centric approach. He is the founder and CEO of ACKO, which offers personalized and affordable insurance products across categories such as car, bike, health, travel, and more.
• Varun holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Mumbai and a master’s degree from MICA. He has over 15 years of experience in the insurance and fintech industry, with a diverse range of roles and responsibilities.
• Acko General Insurance was founded in November 2016 by Varun Dua. Acko has raised a total of $458 million in funding across 8 rounds with investors including Amazon, Accel Partners, SAIF Partners, Catamaran Ventures. ACKO offers direct-to-consumer insurance products through its website and app, where customers can buy, claim, and renew their policies in a few clicks.
• In October 2021, Acko secured its position as India's 34th unicorn by raising $255 million through a Series D funding round. The company has also formed strategic partnerships with Ola cabs, Amazon India, and HDB Financial Services to enhance its offerings and reach more customers.
ACKO has also achieved a valuation of over $1 billion, making it one of the youngest unicorns in India. ACKO has served over 60 million unique customers and settled over 1.5 million claims till date.
• Varun Dua is also an active angel investor who has backed several startups in the fintech, edtech, healthtech, and consumer sectors. Some of his notable investments include ZestMoney, Dunzo, Khatabook, Teachmint, and Pocket Aces.
• Varun is also one of the newest judges on Shark Tank India Season 3, where he will be evaluating and investing in the innovative ideas of aspiring entrepreneurs.
