Days after purchasing UP-registered brewery Kamakhya Beer & Bottling Private Limited (a subsidiary of Chhattisgarh Distilleries Private Limited (CDL) which owns Indian No.1 Magnum Whiskey and Red Indian Rum, among other brands), in a share swap deal, Indian beer maker Bira 91 (B9 Beverages Pvt. Ltd.) has acquired leading domestic alcoholic beverage chain "The Beer Cafe" in an all-stock deal for an undisclosed amount.

The business is allegedly in discussions to raise $70 million from its current investor and the Japanese beverage company Kirin Holdings at the time of the announcement of Bira 91's second acquisition in a week.

The goal of this purchase by Bira 91 is to increase its position in bars and taprooms while also creating India's first significant D2C platform devoted to beer. Following the acquisition, The Beer Cafe's management team will continue to oversee brand operations.
