Before the Union Budget 2024, set to be presented on July 23, the government is thinking about expanding the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme. The plan is to double the number of people covered over the next three years. They want to include everyone over 70 years old and raise the insurance coverage to Rs 10 lakh per year. In the interim Budget, the government increased the allocation for the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme to Rs 7,200 crore. This scheme offers health cover of Rs 5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization to 12 crore families. Rs 646 crore was also earmarked for the Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission.
