About Haileyburia Tea Estates

  • Haileyburia Tea Estates Limited (HTEL) was established on August 23, 1923, by Scottish planter Mr. Frank Bissett. He planted the Semmni Valley Tea Estate and acquired the adjacent Haileyburia and Chinnar Tea Estates near Elappara Village in Peermade Taluk, Idukki District, Kerala.
  • The three estates, Semmni Valley, Chinnar, and Haileyburia, cover approximately 2,475 acres. Around 1,600 acres are planted with tea, while 300 acres are dedicated to coffee with intercropping of black pepper.
  • The company operates a modern, automated tea factory at Semmni Valley Estate, with an annual production capacity of 1.8 million kilograms of CTC tea. Additionally, Haileyburia Tea Estates has facilities for coffee drying and parchment processing.
  • The company's brand, CHINNAR, is one of the leading retail tea brands in Kerala, with a presence in all 14 districts of the state. It is now expanding into the border districts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
