Founded in 1962, the company rose to become the second-largest mattress producer in the country, known for its popular Kurlon brand. However, the company's fortunes changed after the passing of its founder. With the founders' children opting to settle abroad and sell their stake, Kanara Consumer Products saw a significant shift. In October 2023, it sold its major holding in its mattress business to Sheela Foam, another major player in the market. This move effectively ended the Pai family's legacy in the mattress industry and positioned Sheela Foam for potential dominance in the Indian mattress sector.
